What Are The Major Organic Chemicals For Export?

The top destinations for India’s organic chemicals include the USA, China, and Germany. These countries alone account for nearly 40% of India’s organic chemical export. India’s export share in these markets has witnessed a steady double-digit growth rate in the last decade. However, chemical market data shows, Saudi Arabia, with an  AAGR of 58.7 % during 2005-09, is fast becoming one of the major importers of Indian organic chemicals. China is the only major global importer that remains underserved by Indian chemical suppliers.
What Are India’s Top-5 Organic Chemical Export?

India’s top-performing export products in the organic chemical sector include cyclic hydrocarbons, heterocyclic compounds, monocarboxylic acids, other nitrogen-function compounds, and oxygen-function amino-compound.
1. Cyclic Hydrocarbons
Cyclic hydrocarbon is by far the biggest export item among organic chemicals. In 2017, India exported 1..7 million metric tonnes of cyclic hydrocarbons. Major export destinations include the USA, Germany, Japan, France, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
2. Heterocyclic Compounds:
Heterocyclic compounds are the second most exported organic chemical items. 2015 was the best year in terms of export volumes. From 2008 to 2015, there was strong growth in trade volumes. Post-2015, there has been a slight decline but the trade volumes are still strong and consistent. In 2017, India exported 1.2 million tonnes of heterocyclic compounds.
3. Monocarboxylic Acids :
Monocarboxylic acids are extensively used in disinfectants, reducing agents and production of cellulose plastics. India’s monocarboxylic acid export grew by 28.1% AAGR from 2005 to 2009. India is also a major importer of many carboxylic acid derivatives.
4. Oxygen-function amino-compound
In 2018, India exported Oxygen-function amino-compound to over 150 countries. The total export value was around US$ 680.439 Million. Top importers of Indian Oxygen Function Amino Compounds include the USA, China, Switzerland, Iran, Rep. of Korea.
5. Other nitrogen-function compounds:
India’s export value of other nitrogen-function compounds amounts to $17.2M. It has nearly 4.2% share of the total global exports. Other major exporters include China (29%), United States (9.4%), Germany (12%), South Korea and Japan (9%).
These were some of the primary orgasmic chemical exports from India. Over the last decades, there has been a steady increase in demand for India’s organic chemicals. The trend is expected to continue for the next decade too. The organic chemical industry in India enjoys a strong domestic demand too. But growth remains stagnated owing to key factors like poor infrastructure and under-utilization of the available assets and resources by industry players.
